I am a cultural sociologist, specializing in cultural class analysis and the middle class in Israel. I earned my PhD from Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I am currently working on the cultural history of the evolution of local and national beauty standards in Israel, and the ways these processes were, and still are, imbricated in class relations, hierarchies and boundaries. Other research projects I am currently involved in is a project on women in poverty under covid-19; the rise of Israeli Judaism; and the role of facial beauty in survivorship during the Holocaust. I am a senior teaching faculty at the Open University of Israel, and a senior fellow at the Mandel Scholion Interdisciplinary Research Center in the Humanities and Jewish Studies, The Hebrew University. My book What is Sexual Capital, co-authored with Eva Illouz will be published in German by Shurkamp in Fall 2021.
